Vanda - Orchids

Coveted around the world, Vanda is a genus of 50 orchid species found throughout tropical Asia, into the Philippines, and down to Australia. Prized for their huge and long-lasting flowers, Vanda orchids are medium to large monopodial (they grow from a single stem) epiphytic (growing on trees), occasionally lithophytic (growing on rocks) orchids with distichous, strap-shaped leaves. The axillary inflorescences often bear large and showy flowers, sometimes scented. These warm-growing tropical orchids are grown in the millions throughout Asia and in America. Most Vandas are grown in baskets that allow their long roots to hang freely. Most species require bright light, warm temperatures, ample water and air movement.
