Plant Family / Verbascum - Mulleins
Verbascum (Mullein) is a genus of mainly summer-flowering annuals, biennals, perennials or sub-shrubs. Spectacular, Verbascums are interesting border plants with their graceful spikes of long-lasting blossoms in shades of white, pink, deep rose, violet and purple. Easy to grow, drought tolerant and deer resistant, their stately appearance and handsome vertical lines make them natural candidates for mixed borders where they will attract hummingbirds and draw the attention of onlookers. Wonderful as cut flowers, Verbascums are also great for bouquets!
A desirable ornamental Mullein, Verbascum 'Southern Charm' is a short-lived perennial with abundant, graceful spikes smothered with uniquely colored flowers in pastel shades of creamy yellow, soft lavender and peachy, each adorned with a fuzzy purple eye.
Elegantly rising from a handsome rosette of gray-green leaves, Verbascum chaixii 'Album' (Nettle-Leaved Mullein), is a short-lived perennial with graceful spikes smothered with abundant white flowers adorned with purple hearts and orange eyes over a long flowering period extending from late spring to late summer with possible fall rebloom
