Rhododendron 'Roseum Elegans'

Roseum Elegans' Rhododendron, Rhododendron catawbiense 'Roseum Elegans', Late Midseason Rhododendron

Vigorous, Rhododendron 'Roseum Elegans' is a large, dense, broadleaf evergreen shrub that is valued for its large rounded clusters of rosy lavender flowers. Blooming in late spring to early summer, each cluster (or truss) can hold up to 20 attractive bell-shaped flowers with delicate reddish-brown dorsal spotting. Borne at the tips of the upright branches, the blossoms gradually change to pink over time and contrast beautifully with the evergreen foliage of elliptic, glossy, olive green leaves. Raised and introduced by A. Waterer, this late midseason Rhododendron is tolerant of heat and cold.

  • Grows with a dense, spreading habit, up to 6-8 ft. tall and wide (180-240 cm)
  • A part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in moist, acidic, humusywell-drained soils. Plant shallowly. Protect from frost to prevent damage to flowers. Mulch annually with leaf mould to retain moisture, control weeds, and cool the soil.
  • Perfect for borders, as a flowering hedge or privacy screen and for foundation plantings.
  • Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and birds
  • Removing spent flowers promotes new growth
  • Pruning should be done immediately after flowering.
  • All parts of plant are poisonous if ingested
