Prized for its winter floral display, award-winner Jasminum nudiflorum (Winter Jasmine) is a medium-sized deciduous shrub with long, arching branches. Its slender willowy green stems stand out in late winter or early spring when clothed with masses of bright yellow flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm). Non-fragrant, they appear before the handsome, shiny green, trifoliate leaves unfurl. Winter Jasmine is ideal as a bank cover since it spreads where the stems touch the ground. It is also very pretty when cascading from retaining walls.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • If grown as a shrub, Winter Jasmine will grow in a sprawling mound up to 4 ft. tall (120 cm). If grown as a vine, it will reach 10-15 ft. in height (300-450 cm).
  • Thrives in full sun to part shade, in sandy loams with regular moisture. Tolerates full shade but best flower production is obtained in the sun or partial sun. Tolerant to a wide range of soil conditions.
  • Virtually pest free. Watch for aphids and mealybugs.
  • Prune as needed in early spring just after flowering is completed.
  • Perfect for wall-side borders, as a climber over trellises or arbors, or as ground cover for banks and slopes
  • Propagate by layering or semi-hardwood cuttings
  • Native to China
