Compact and luminous, Rhododendron ‘Goldkrone’ is a lovely evergreen shrub producing eye-catching trusses of 16 to 18 light golden-yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers, up to 2.5 in. wide (7 cm), delicately freckled with reddish brown on their upper lobes. Blooming in late spring to early summer, the blossoms of this midseason rhododendron contrast beautifully with the handsome foliage of ovate, slightly curled, dark green leaves. Raised and introduced by Hans Hachmann, ‘Goldkrone’ is a winter hardy rhododendron that never fails to provide a splendid display when massed in shrub borders. 

  • Grows with a bushy, round habit, up to 3-5 ft. tall and wide (90-150 cm)
  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • A part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in moist, acidic, humusywell-drained soils. Plant shallowly. Protect from frost to prevent damage to flowers. Mulch annually with leaf mold to retain moisture, control weeds, and cool the soil.
  • Perfect for borders, as a flowering hedge or privacy screen, and for banks and slopes. Great for containers and small gardens!
  • Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and birds
  • Removing spent flowers promotes new growth
  • Propagate by seed or semi-hardwood cuttings. Cultivars will not come true from seed
  • All parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested.
