Potato Vine, Solanum jasminoides, Potato Climber, Jasmine Nightshade

AGM Award
Solanum laxum 'Album', Potato Vine, Solanum jasminoides, Potato Climber, Jasmine Nightshade, evergreen shrub, evergreen white potato vine, white flowers

Sweetly scented and fast-growing, award-winner Solanum laxum ‘Album’ (Potato Vine) is a large, semi-evergreen climber with luminous clusters of jasmine-scented, star-shaped, white flowers adorned with tiny, yellow centers. The flowers are produced in great quantities from summer to fall and usually year-round in mild climates. The fragrant blooms are followed by decorative but inedible, rounded, purple-black fruits. Delicate-looking, the foliage of small, glossy, dark green leaves will remain on the plant in mild winter areas. Well-behaved, this vigorous climber can quickly cover a small arbor or a sunny sheltered wall.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society for its noteworthy qualities.
  • Can quickly grow up to 30 ft. tall (9 m) and 6 ft. wide (180 cm).
  • Thrives in full sun in moist, well-drained soils. Provide a sheltered site.
  • Deer resistant. Tolerant of near seashore conditions.
  • This vigorous climber is perfect for covering a sunny, sheltered wall, trellis, or fence. Excellent summer container specimen that may be easily overwintered in colder climates.
  • Cut back to prevent tangling and promote vigorous new growth.
  • Ingestion may cause severe discomfort. Wear gloves and wash your hands after handling.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
  • Native to Brazil
