Rhododendron 'Klondyke'

Klondyke' Rhododendron, 'Klondyke' Azalea, Deciduous Azalea, Early Midseason Azalea, Midseason Azalea

Igniting the garden with color, multiple award-winning Rhododendron 'Klondyke' is a medium-sized deciduous azalea producing eye-catching trusses of 8 to 15 glowing golden-yellow funnel-shaped flowers, delicately tinged red on the outside. Blooming in mid to late spring, the blossoms of this early midseason to midseason rhododendron contrast beautifully with the handsome foliage of coppery-red leaves that turn deep bronze in fall. Raised and introduced by Edmund de Rothschild, 'Klondyke' is an extremely hardy selection which never fails to provide a splendid display when massed in shrub borders.

  • Grows with a broad, upright, dense habit, up to 4-6 ft. tall and wide (120-180 cm)
  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society and winner of the Rhododendron of the Year Award of the American Rhododendron Society for the Mid-Atlantic (2010) and Great Lakes (2012) regions.
  • A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in moist, acidic, humusywell-drained soils. Plant shallowly. Protect from frost to prevent damage to flowers. Mulch annually with leaf mould to retain moisture, control weeds, and cool the soil.
  • Perfect for borders, as a flowering hedge or privacy screen and for containers. Great for small gardens!
  • Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and birds
  • Excellent mildew resistance
  • Removing spent flowers promotes new growth
  • All parts of plant are poisonous if ingested
