Rhododendron 'Princess Anne'
Princess Anne' Rhododendron, Early Midseason Rhododendron, Evergreen Rhododendron
Noted for its compact size, golden blossoms, and beautiful foliage, Rhododendron 'Princess Anne' is an attractive dwarf evergreen shrub. In mid to late spring, it bears a profusion of dome-shaped trusses of 4 to 10 pale greenish-yellow flowers. Funnel-shaped, about 1 in. across (2.5 cm), with a lightly flushed darker throat, they contrast nicely with the neat evergreen foliage of small, dark green leaves which take a bronzy cast when young and in winter. A very reliable performer, this showy Rhododendron is tough and can withstand temperatures as low as -5°F (-21°C). Easy to grow, 'Princess Anne' can be grown in full sun and makes a cheerful addition to the rock garden.
- Grows with a tight, compact habit, up to 2-3 ft. tall and wide (60-90 cm).
- Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
- A sun to part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in moist, acidic, humusy, well-drained soils. Thrives in full sun. Plant shallowly in a location protected from strong winter winds. Protect from frost to prevent damage to flowers. Mulch annually with leaf mold to retain moisture, control weeds, and cool the soil.
- Perfect for shrub borders or mixed borders, rock gardens, small gardens, and containers.
- Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and birds.
- Removing spent flowers promotes new growth.
- All parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested.
- Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
